The film

American MasalaDream in Motion

A rom-com musical short about identity, performance, love, and the freedom of coming back to yourself. Modern Austin energy meets Bollywood-inspired dream logic — funny, glamorous, and chaotic one moment; music, memory, and spiritual truth the next.

The story

At the center is Meena — a magnetic Indian-American woman moving through Austin dating culture, brunch chaos, two-step dance floors, memories of India, and the deeper question underneath it all: who are you when you stop performing the version of yourself the world rewards?

Inspired by real-life experiences across the U.S. and India, the film explores creative rebirth, women's friendships, spirituality, identity, social labels, and the pressure many women feel to become more "acceptable" in order to belong. It's a romantic comedy — but the deeper love story is Meena returning to herself.

Why it matters

So many women are living between worlds: culture and freedom, ambition and tenderness, spirituality and survival, wanting love and refusing to shrink inside it.

You do not have to become one thing to be lovable. You can be the whole mix. That is the masala.

A scene from the script

INT. WHITE HORSE — NIGHT

A crowded Austin two-step bar. Cowboy boots. Neon lights. Country music. Whiskey. Laughter.

And somehow — MEENA (30s), magnetic, glamorous, wildly alive, stands in the middle of it all like she belongs nowhere and everywhere at once.

RAJ

Do you want to dance?

MEENA

That depends. Are you good at it?

RAJ

Emotionally or physically?

She laughs. Damn. Good answer.

Ready to be part of it?
